SHELLY'S SEOULFULL ADVENTURES

Friday, May 02, 2008

I love starting off a Friday with good news! I had applied for the On Site program at my University which means I only attend classes on Fridays (except for 7 weeks spread throughout the year that I need to be on campus) the rest of the time I am at an elementary school teaching. They only had limited space available. Yipeeee!!! I don't get a spring break which kinda sucks cause I have to teach through it but I actually get to teach for a year instead of sitting in a classroom all the time at University. Sweeeeeet.

Sounds like a great plan. It's exactly how I earned my teaching credential: More on the job/in the classroom experience and less listening to the BS of an also-ran professor who hadn't seen the inside of a classroom for 30 years. Are you planning on focusing on primary grades?

Hi Bob,

After having my own class for so long the LAST thing I wanted to do was listen to a teacher lecture to me about teaching. My time would be much better spent in a classroom where I'm doing the teaching so I'm really happy about getting into this special program at my University. My degree will be in Primary/Junior which is K4 though Grade 6. I'm hoping to become a 1st or 2nd grade teacher.

I have taught second grade. It's one of the best grade levels to teach: Kids that age experience an enormous developmental leap. Consequently, everything comes together in terms of understanding reading and math. You'd do well at that level.
